NonStop Radio

has three core purposes:

  1. To discover and assist grassroots movements in keeping threatened Progressive Talk stations on the air for their communities,
  2. To assist grassroots efforts in re-establishing Progressive Talk stations where they have been canceled, or set up new Progressive Talk stations for markets not yet exposed to it, and
  3. To act as a clearinghouse of information so that activists everywhere can come to the aid of threatened and canceled stations, and to also distribute tips and tricks so that any non-threatened station can be made less vulnerable by its supporters.

CPR: Emerald City!

NonStop Radio has heard Eugene, Oregon's call for help, founding a CPR (Campaign for Progressive Radio) for the Emerald City. Together with the people of Eugene, we will use this resource to pull together the activists, the general populace, the businesses and the broadcasters into a coalition that will see balance restored to the Emerald City's airwaves.

As one caller (of many) to Jon Elliott this week pointed out, Eugene has three conservative stations and, since the cancellation of KOPT, no Progressive stations. With her life as a student, she has no time to read about all of what is transpiring and counts on balanced media to give her information she can listen to while accomplishing the rest of her busy day. She's not alone, and now, we are going to prove it. Join us!

NonStop Radio Symposium

You are looking to forge a national community of Progressive Radio activists. You would like to come together and conspire with others who care just as much about securing the future of Progressive Talk as you do. You're not alone. Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, Stephanie Miller, Rachel Maddow, Cenk Uygur, Richard Greene, Peter B. Collins, John Nichols, Jon Elliott, and many, many more want to help you, at the first-of-its-kind NonStop Radio Symposium, to be held August 1st through 3rd, 2008 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Go to the event site now!

Rise to the Challenge!

Peter B. Collins, Progressive Talk Host and owner of KRXA AM540, has news that we ALL must wake up to! KSAC (Sacremento, CA) and KKGN (Green 960 in San Francisco) are both vulnerable to flipping if we con't band together NOW to help them build advertiser support!

NonStop Radio fully supports the "Peter B. Challenge". We cannot take it for granted that in Blue-state California, Progressive Talk will survive without our full and guided support. Go to the Peter B. Challenge page now to find out how to give KSAC and KKGN the boost they need to continue to serve California with Progressive Talk.

Missoula's Website is Live!

KMPT, AM930 in Missoula (a.k.a. Missoula's Progressive Talk) is online now! Check out http://www.MissoulasProgressiveTalk.com/ and see what the only Progressive outlet in Montana is up to! Dave Cowan and GAP West listened to the people of Missoula - now it's our turn to make sure they know it was the best move they ever made!

Columbus Wins!!!

Almost a year ago, just a day after we had won the fight to keep Progressive Talk in Madison, Wisconsin, we were contacted by Dave Daulton of Columbus, congratulating us and then begging for whatever help we could give him... you see, Columbus was about to lose its Progressive Talk station, too.

NonStop Radio jumped right into action, helping him form Ohio Majority Radio, a focal point around for the efforts to secure Progressive Talk in central Ohio. I then asked Stephanie Miller and Jim Ward to voice a promo spot to help the cause, which they graciously did. It was to no avail, the management of WTPG wouldn't listen, and Columbus lost its only link to Progressive news and views.

But NSR and Ohio Majority Radio wouldn't quit. Making an alliance with ProgressOhio, a potent local progressive activist group, together the fight kept being waged until recently... when Columbus WON!

That's right. As of today, Monday, December 3rd, 2007, 1580 AM WVKO goes live with a full Progressive Talk lineup. Ohio Majority Radio and ProgressOhio have scored a major victory, and NonStop Radio could not be prouder or happier.

The new station website is up and running! Go to http://wvko1580.com/ to see for yourself! They boast a new, stronger signal than the original WTPG did, and they also stream.

Yours in the Cause,
Aldous Tyler

SAN DIEGO:
KLSD AM flipped on 11/12/2008

Clear Channel's Hybrid Theory for
Progressive Radio in San Diego Debunked

Clear Channel wanted Air America, Ed Schultz and Mike Malloy to "move on up" in San Diego, by moving them from AM to HD Radio. But there was nothing good in this proposed move.

MEMPHIS IS DOWN—
NOW IT IS TIME TO STAND UP.

Cincinnati Enquirer gives Progressive Talk some print!

Jerry of Cincinnati got his article printed in today's Cincinnati Enquirer, entitled "Give progressive radio a chance in Cincinnati"(PDF file, 107 K) .

I encourage you to read what Jerry had to say, and then respond to Ray Cooklis at rcooklis@enquirer.com, or to letters@enquirer.com, ("Your voice" should be in the subject line).  Tell him what you think about Progressive Talk being snuffed out of Ohio entirely, which began in Cincinnati, or tell him how you feel about seeing a pro-Progressive Talk point of view being allowed to be printed in the Cincinnati Enquirer and given a mass audience.  Or tell him you like toasted marshmallows, for all I care. :-)  Just let the Cincinnati Enquirer know it did good by giving our side some page space.

Introducing the

TRAILBLAZER
WINNERS

NonStop Radio is dedicated to securing the future of Progressive Talk around the country by putting it back on in markets that are losing their Progressive Talk stations and establishing new outlets in markets that have never had the "privilege" of listening to an alternative point of view.

The Trailblazer Awards were devised as a way for NonStop Radio to recognize and appreciate those brave souls who laid down the foundation of Progressive Talk. These awards will never be given out again, as Progressive Talk is swiftly moving from the foundation the Trailblazers gave it into an audacious and promising tomorrow. Thus, there are a number of Trailblazers being awarded.

In March, NonStop Radio asked everyone to email in their nominations (or to second a nomination that already existed) for the Progressive Talk hosts they felt should be recognized as a Trailblazer of Progressive Talk. Those were tallied through midnight, March 31st. We then sorted out who, amongst the nominees, had received the most calls for recognition. We took the top 2/3rds of that ranking and awarded those hosts a Trailblazer. To see the complete list of nominees, click here.

The winners, in alphabetic order by last name, of NonStop Radio's Trailblazer Awards are:

Peter B. Collins Al Franken
Amy Goodman Thom Hartmann
Mike Malloy Marc Maron
Stephanie Miller Bill Press
Randi Rhodes Neil Rogers
Ed Schultz Sam Seder
Cenk Uygur Bernie Ward

Look for a "Trailblazers' Hall" page to go up shortly here, which will honor each of these hosts as best as we can. They each are receiving a framed Trailblazer Award certificate in the mail within the next week.

Thank you to everyone who spoke up in support of the hosts who exemplify the foundation of Progressive Talk in your hearts. These visionaries gave us the basis of Progressive Talk. Let's not disappoint them, or waste their efforts- it is time to build the future.

Yours in the Cause,
Aldous Tyler,
NonStop Radio
